Answers to questions contributors, members, and readers ask most often about Caesurae.

Caesurae: Poetics of Cultural Translation (ISSN 2454-9495) is an international, open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed e-journal published annually by the Caesurae Collective Society, a registered non-profit organisation based in Kolkata, India. The journal has been running since 2016.

Caesurae is a caravan of ideas intersecting between cultures, disciplines, philosophy and narrative — a creative pause in the midst of the breathless rush of life. It invites readers and contributors to pause and ponder the art and problematics of cultural translation through poetry, creative prose, academic essays, music, painting, photography, and interviews.

Yes — entirely. All content published in Caesurae is freely available to read, download, and share. There is no subscription or access fee for readers and no submission or publication fee for contributors. Contributions to the journal are open to all.

Caesurae publishes across nine standing sections:

Mana — Poems, creative prose, translation and transcreation.
Interventions — Critical essays engaging contemporary debates.
Ekphrases — Articles, interviews with creative people, perspectives on music, art, painting, and photography.
Translation — Translated texts with scholarly introductions; only translations into English are accepted.
Hill Cultures — Oral histories, creation myths, temple architecture, folk forms, and cultural translation in hill and highland regions.
Indic Studies — Scholarship on Indic thought, texts, and traditions.
Spring Rhythm — A dedicated section for young scholars and students.
Caesurae Column — Book reviews, perspectives, and event reports.
Special Feature — A themed section, often tied to the annual conference.

Each issue may also carry a Special Feature on a specific theme. See the Forthcoming Issue page for current open calls and section editors.

The journal is published by the Caesurae Collective Society, founded in 2016 by Surjo Sengupta, Supratik Chatterjee, and Jayita Sengupta. The Chief and Managing Editor is Dr Jayita Sengupta, Professor of English at Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University, West Bengal.

The journal is supported by an Editorial Board of 19 members drawn from institutions across India, France, the USA, and beyond, along with an Advisory Board of 10 members and 8 Associate Editors. The full board is listed on the Editorial Board page.

No. The opinions expressed through articles, essays, interviews, and other content are purely those of the individual authors. The Management Board and the Editors are not responsible for the views expressed in any published piece.

Yes. Authors must register as members of the journal before submitting. Registration is free — you sign up with a password and login only; no membership fee is charged for journal access. This journal registration is separate from membership of the Caesurae Collective Society (which is needed for conferences and workshops).

Prepare your manuscript as an MS Word (.doc / .docx) file following the formatting guidelines below, then email it to the Chief Editor at mail@caesurae.in, or directly to the relevant section editor as listed on the Forthcoming Issue page.
